Two coats of conditioner. When applying it, do one tread at a time, and keep it totally wet with conditioner, until you have enough on it. Then wipe it and make sure you wipe it evenly, until the conditioner feels dry Take your time, and do it right. Its a very important step.

Resign yourself to having them turn out 2 different colors. If you want them to be the same color, replace the pine with new oak treads.

Don't replace; finish with a glaze and they'll match perfectly.
