Bring in a traditional rug with some muted, but complementary colors to your walls, like this one:

Will brighten up the space. See if you can order a sample of the rug first before you commit to the larger one so you can see if the colors work with your walls.

P.S. I'd replace the art on your wall with something more interesting. Maybe a grouping of black framed prints? The wood art is too similar to the table/chairs.

It’s looking so dull at the moment. Thank you for the suggestions!

I don't think you need a rug, just something to draw on the big wall.

The light fixture doesn't really work. you need something tall on the wall, either a large piece of art, or something useful for storage and service.

sort of along this idea... I couldn't find the right piece ...

A rug with that bench is going to be trouble. Better art and light fixture is where I would spend my budget.

Need a new chandelier it will make a huge difference you could do linear or big round wagon wheel style. Buffet is too small maybe look for another option…do you have at least 2’ behind the chair in front of console?

Thank you! Love that art and the light beneath it. Yes there’s 2’ behind chairs.

Oh darn that gabby chandelier is too big for your table it’s 48” wide….but if you like that style I will look for other options .

Leave everything else as is but add an abstract rug in grays, driftwood, tan, and black. If you see a rug you like at Rugs.com or Wayfair, order smallest size to test out pattern and color. It'll be easy to send it back for a much larger rug--big enough for chairs to be pulled out on the rug.

    • Repainted your upper wall
    • Changed out the chandelier
    • Selected area rugs with a soft green tone

BTW your room requires a much longer sideboard to balance the size of the table.

    Any other chandelier suggestions? :)

A linear fixture that is open to see large art would be wonderful over your long table. This is a very nice look and keeps things bright but not too heavy.

I would move the be h over to the wall side and chairs up to front side so you can see the pretty criss cross backs and it will also allow you to see the buffet better..look for a longer buffet for sure.

    “The Bench”

Ok I like this light and I love gold but this is still falling flat for me. Maybe with the right (black?) wall art

That chandelier looks great against black.

You could also paint above your wainscoting a dark charcoal and use darker art for wow factor. I couldn’t get the chandelier into this mock up but maybe ffalms can help. I was able to get this one in. Similar but with glass features.

Art is very personal, so you can find what you like to place on your long wall. This just gives you concept.

I think adding something with some curves will help with the wall art not exactly matching the straight linear shape..The chandelier bottom left is a great price from Wayfair with 5 star reviews.

I love that light on the top!! I wonder if it comes in black?

    Comes in dark bronze.

Why are you even considering a chandelier in brass? That finish is so wrong for the room. You need a finish that contrasts your furniture and walls. Look up chandeliers "island" type or "linear" for reference.

Your home is gorgeous! Maybe one of these on the large wall would add some texture and contrast to tie in your neutrals and warm browns/tans. :) Here are a few abstract pieces for you to consider..

Is this dining area your main eating area? Or is it separate dining room. Your furniture is more casual, so Beverly’s suggestions are in line with that casual look. So the black you have is not working because it’s the wrong style and shape for your table. Which direction are you leaning?

This is a separate dining room:) We just moved in and The lights in the whole house need to be replaced unfortunately

Baby steps. You don't need to purchase EVERYTHING at the same time. Just don't spend money you will regret spending.

Ok. So you can dress this up or down. More contrast or less. Your choice. Would like to see adjoining room too.

All of them are terrible! 😩 This is the first room you see when you come inside.. so starting here.

This is a steal at $335! Just beautiful with your table and it is 54” long will really have that wow factor! And with your high ceiling it is perfect.

That’s great chandelier for your room. Kind of walks the line between formal and casual. Winner. And yes, great price.

I like that! Ok I’ve narrowed it down to that and this other one.

That one you just posted will hang too high..you need a fixture that has lots of height.

  • PRO

    How high are your ceilings?

    Oh shoot. 10’

  • PRO

With a light hanging around 36” above the table your chandelier can be a total of 54” in height that is including the bars or chains needed to hang it.

    The height Is adjustable

Is that for the one you posted? So you will have two long rods hanging down? I would want something more decorative to look at.

I also prefer the Bodie fixture, it’s not as common as the one you posted.
