Just a question, this looks like new construction or a renovation, why is the fireplace off center?

I'd have the surround go the full length of the wall. Like this but go edge to edge:

There’s nothing wrong with asymmetry- usually more interesting. But I’d forgo cabinets on one side- that could look strange. When everything is finished and painted put a beautiful painting above the fireplace and a tall green plant on the larger side of the fireplace.

OPTIONS

I like @beverlyFLADeziner’s suggestions. A chair, lamp or plant to fill in the space. And the full height surround. That would look really nice. Agree that bookcase on the right will just add to the asymmetry. Don’t do that.
