I don’t care for that floorplan at that scale, and would never intentionally design a space like that. It might work for me if the dining and living spaces were smaller and more casual, with a separate dining room and living room elsewhere.

Our next house is designed in a similar format, but there is definition between each space. Our kitchen is U shaped with an island. We entertain fairly often, so we didn’t want the dining or living room to be off by itself. We also have a home office and tv room on the first floor, so there are spaces to escape to for quiet.
