Hi,

We're doing a large remodel of our home and looking to create an open layout on our first floor.

We are, however, split between the following two options:

- Option 1 where the kitchen is on the bottom left corner

- Option 2 is where the kitchen is on the right side

The top of the house (based on the plan orientation) faces southeast so it get great afternoon light and we want to maximize the amount of light the room gets.

We are not allowed to have any windows on the right side of the plan due to setback rules.

We're leaning towards option 1 since it allows us to have a much larger living room area and seems to slightly use the space more efficiently.

However, we do like the fact that with option 2, we have a much larger kitchen. We could even maybe only have a galley + island setup with the sink on a much larger island and have larger windows on the "top wall". What we don't like is the "dead space" below the island and to the left of the fridge that we have to reserve for passage.

For additional context, the bedroom on this floor is a guest bedroom and we park on the driveway on the "left side" of the plan. Upstairs, we have 3 bedrooms.

We would love opinions from those who have open layouts and what has worked for them! Thank you!
