Patio help desperately needed pls

I would love to hear ideas for adding much needed curb appeal to my patio. My neighbour has installed a brown blind which I would like to hide. I would also appreciate ideas for plants, furniture etc. It is a south-facing patio. Thanks!

This looks and sounds familiar, did you post this previously?

@millworkman Yes but unfortunately didn’t get much response! I’m still trying to figure out what to do here. It is quite open to the road so privacy is a big concern for me as well as general curb appeal. i thought about a lattice or other privacy panel to block my neighbour’s end of the patio. Besides large plants/planters, any other suggestions?

If you don’t care for the neighbor’s blind, hang your own. Buy some outdoor curtains (I had some that were bright red and had grommets that I loved at our former house) and hang them on a pole rod.

edited to add: mine were fairly heavy and had weighted hems too which helped keep them from fluttering in the wind too badly.

I, too, would suggest hanging outdoor curtains to block the neighbor's shade - probably in some green pattern to complement your trim. I can't tell if the patio is open to the road so you need more privacy from that? If so, you could hang curtains on the road side as well and arrange them for privacy - you don't have to have a solid wall of curtains. I don't know where you live, but if it gets hot, you might want a lighter fabric that allows some better air flow. You could also get an indoor outdoor rug to cozy up the area.

These are all outdoor safe curtains. Notice how some are hung on what looks to be pipes or conduit. Easy to configure and attach and not too expensive.

they don't have to be fully drawn to give you more privacy (not this color, just to show how they are hung:

Another idea photo for neighbor side. For seating, what how will you like to use the space? Just a few comfy chairs and accent tables?

Curtains would be a good addition to hide your neighbors blind but also to provide you with more privacy and to block low angle sunlight. I can't tell if the wall near the blind is wood or stone but, whatever the material, it could use some refashioning. Comfortable seating would certainly make your patio more enjoyable. Would suggest furniture with big, plush cushions. Would suggest a durable rug to anchor your furnishings. You could get a movable fire pit that could convert to a coffee. Ourdoor decor on your walls will certainly help as well. You could also consider hanging fabric on the underside of the deck to make your space more sumptous. Good luck.

Maybe try a white sheet or pull down screen for outdoor movies. This would easily cover the brown blind. Here are some other ideas from various designs we have completed for clients.

@Phoebe Quinlan, your response to the question of have you posted this dilemma before? "Yes but unfortunately didn’t get much response! " There are 3 other posts of yours with lots and lots of good suggestions and you just blow the off commentators? Seriously?

Im a little confused— this is the backside of the house, and you have a backyard that slopes upward— but you are needing curb appeal and privacy from the road? Where exactly does the street run and which part of your back patio actually faces the street?

In addition to some of the suggestions above— have you considered installing a garden bed around the perimeter of your patio? If you had a mix of shrubs/perennials at varying heights as a buffer between your patio and yard, it would add curb appeal and make the area feel more enclosed/ private.

@P.D. Schlitz. Sorry for the confusion. i will post a pic of how the road relates to the patio tomorrow. I do like the idea of the perimeter bed. Thanks.
