I found the post from June 4 so not sure why you can't just leave the bed as it is I am not a big fan of all matching furniture in bedrooms I like the quilt but why did you not use a colot from it for the walls . In the pic you posted the night tables and bed look fine together but the pic of the dresser looks to be a totally different color . Maybe post a pic of the one night table next to the dresser in the same light .

The dresser snd night stands are sctually the same color.

I think its the light whst makes the nightstands look darker than the dresser. the headboard is the one darker than dresser and nightstands. the walls are SW age white. they are creamy with a light tint of yellow.

What if you looked at doing an upholstered headboard so it makes things lighter and feel cozier. Something like you see here in a design of ours:

It can be hard to DIY paint commercially finished furniture and have it come out looking professional. If you want you can try, but it is not expensive to buy just a stand-alone headboard . I think an upholstered headboard would be nicest however. Again, they don't have to break the bank to look nice.

I wonder if these pillows would be fun to replace some of the ones you have. You've got a lot of pattern going on in there, so I'm thinking it's best to just keep on rolling with it!

Do you have any color in the bathroom or is it all neutrals like white fixtures, off-white walls and maybe some grey or wood? 

Do you have any color in the house or is it all neutrals? 

Do you have a favorite actual color like blue, green, yellow, orange? Maybe in your wardrobe?

Getting the right height will determine the effect. A photo head-on showing the entire wall will help you and others Photoshop in ideas.

Decorating a bedroom comes down to drawing attention to the bed for most people. Ways to do that include:

Painting the wall at the head of the bed a different color. I'm guessing that doesn't appeal since you just paid people to paint it. 

Adding a dramatic headboard. Seems you are considering that. 

Framing the surrounding area with built-in bookshelves. 

Adding flanking free-standing bookshelves or etageres to replace the nightstands. Use them somewhere else including a living room or family room. Then you don't have to paint the headboard.

Adding a series of floating shelves (more contemporary, so maybe not for you).

Flanking the bed with dramatic pendants (also good for lighting). 

Hanging draperies behind the bed. 

Hanging a tapestry behind the bed.

Hanging a large bold art piece or wall sculpture behind the bed.

Adding lattice work to the wall. 

Bold colors in pillows and bedding.

Which of these appeal to you?

The height and shape of the headboard wall adds complexity but also opportunity.

You could combine some of these ideas.
