I do not agree I have poly rugs in my LR and they are soft on barefeet and not plasicy at all. I do have a felt pad under mine and I always use felt for under pad on a rug to protect any type of flooring. I do however not think a rug will be agood idea with the desk right there how will you move the desk chair You need a min of 3' all around the rug for your dining cahirs to even move. I love the table , the chairs and IMO the light is is the star no need for a rug to fight with it.

Patricia, thank you for your comments. I've moved the table further out from the desk and I believe a 90-94" square rug would be optimal. (Desk is rarely used). The 'light' is actually a mobile, but I love it as well. Furniture is Norwegian or Swedish by a company called Johansen. I ordered it just before 9/11 then it took over 6 months to be delivered due to restrictions on freight. I'm looking something to lighten the space a bit, but not sure if a light rug in a dining area, even if washable is advisable. If you have any recommendations, I'd certainly apreciate it.
