Trees planted close

Do you have experience with fruit trees planted too close? What happens when they grow up? Due to lack of space and soil, we have planted all kinds of fruit trees so close, within a couple meters from each other. Mangos, avocados, bananas, papayas, pineapples, pommegranate, plum trees, lemons, oranges, anona cherimoya, all growing in one space, still small trees and some giving some fruit already, but what will happen when they all grow up large? have you already had this experience?

They may become crowded and not produce the amount of fruit of full-size trees.

But--how much fruit do you eventually want? How much can you use? It would seem that a dense orchard is intended for a fair sampling of each fruit type.

all fruit production trees are full sun.. for optimal fruit production ..

once they start shading each other out.. fruit production will wane... they will not stay all the same size.. a dwarf this might be 10 foot tall.. and a dwarf that might be 25 feet tall ... dwarf is a tricky term in the tree world ... it really doesnt mean they will all stay small .. a dwarf of a 365 foot tall redwood might only be 285 feet tall.. in a couple hundred years ...

certain trees will simply be to small and fail for lack of all sun.. eventually ...

you can avoid such with a very aggressive pruning process ...most fruit trees are rather ugly.. pruning for peak production.. not pretty little trees ...

you better perfect a very aggressive spraying schedule.. starting with dormant spraying in late winter.. and continuing all season long ...

i would expect to lose some plants to gummosis ... wait.. is that a tropical fruit tree issue.. idk ...

sounds like a very interesting experiment... keep us posted.. and in the meantime.. show us some pix.... maybe we can already make some suggestions...

There are a lot of clusters of red Maple trees on this property and next door. There are several clusters of 3 trees that are 60 feet tall. And there is a cluster of 7 mature Red Maples doing very well.

I wanted to plant more apples than I really have room for so I planted a cluster of 4 cider apple varieties. They are all on semi dwarf/semi standard rootstocks; M111. 1 figure the cluster will produce about the same amount of apples as a single tree in the same space, and the four trees will supply me with all the apples I'd need for the cider I'd want to make.

I have another cluster of 4 trees that are all very old sports of Red Delicious on the same rootstock. I'm interested in researching what happened to the taste of this apple over the last 100 years. Again the 4 trees will provide me with the apples I need. Hopefully.

The apple trees above are all too young to produce, but I wanted to share my reasoning.
