Help! What's wrong with my viola - NJ Z6

I planted 3 Viola cornuta 'Halo Lemon Frost' a few weeks ago. One got bittten off right at the roots. (I have never had so much critter damage as this year). One is doing beautifully. And one is struggling. Any thoughts on why?
