Depending on your preferences, but something more red in the dining area to bring the red sofa color, and a mixture of brown and red rug in the living area would work.

You need to add black and white accessories, pillows on the sofa and chair, drapes.

Love the rug in the dining room! I thought it would be too much red to do this, but it really pops. I do not like the rug I have in the family room, so I would love to change it to something with more color. I love to decorate with plates on the wall - all plates on the wall are red/white. Changing some of them to black/white is a good idea. The reason I used the red is because of the couch/loveseat - bringing red to other parts of the room. I do have black/white pillows on the couch/loveseat and some black/white accessories, but not a lot. I do not have alot of surfaces to put accessories. If you look at the picture of the fireplace, I have two plants on each side of the TV. I think it is too plain. Do you have some ideas there? Black would not really pop there. Can I add another color to the room, maybe a teal blue? Use tall vases there? Thanks to all of you for your help.

Also, do you think I should change the china cabinet to a buffet. Is a china cabinet too old fashioned? I have a buffet that I can put there. Thanks alot!

Very pretty. Love the colors. Just a thought - you might consider regrouping your artwork to the right of the fireplace . Typically you hang artwork (2 pcs) the distance of the width of the mat. If you position these over the bench (books?) it would make a nice grouping and not "float" on the wall. Hope this helps!

I'd put a solid piece of furniture to the right of the fireplace. There are too many small items there to balance the weight in the corner.That will anchor your artwork. Pictures hanging in midair always lok as if they're missing something.

Maybe put your buffet to the right of the fireplace and accessorize it. Definitely agree with replacing the living room rug and definitely agree you need a rug in the dining room. Maybe look for a neutral one with a red border.

Also how about a sparkly chandelier over the dining table? Or even something more simple but it would draw the eye.

I would update and lighten the space with a vibrant yellow and some glass. A glass coffee table perhaps and pop of yellow in the area rug.

There are two suggestions of putting a solid piece to the right of the fireplace, like maybe my buffet. Should I move the loveseat? There is not enough room for a piece like my buffet table and the loveseat. I do not have anywhere else to fit the loveseat - to the left of the fireplace is the window, then the couch, a table and recliner. Between the recliner and the loveseat is a pass thru to walk into the room. I like the idea of a piece there, but I remove the loveseat from the room, I would not have enough seating. Just a thought, but I love painted furniture, I was thinking of painting the coffee table black, the piece to the right of the fireplace I want to paint any color other than white or black, but not sure what color to paint it. I like your colour palette and just a few changes might give you what you are looking for.
The rug is too small for the room. At a minimum all the front legs of your upholstery pieces should sit on the rug.
The coffee table is too small in relation to your sofa. To get the right size, take
the width of your sofa, between the arms, and multiple by 66%. The number you get will be the maximum length of your coffee table.
I would not put the buffet next to your fireplace because two heavy pieces side by side will look...well...heavy.
Try switching the chair and the loveseat so that the loveseat is at a 90 degree angle to the sofa. Then use the chair near the wall to create a little reading area by adding an end table and lamp or get a larger floor lamp as that one is too small for the space.
For the wall next to the fireplace, the art collection needs to be bigger to fill more of the wall space. Personally I like having one type of art on the wall and i would either do a large collection of framed prints or a large collection of plates. Right now the art is too small and looks lost on the large wall - go big!
I love plants in rooms because they bring life to a room but there might be too many small plants and it is causing some distraction. Perhaps replace them with one large tree/plant.
Add more white in the room to tie in the drapery - perhaps in the rug or a throw on the loveseat for a cozy feel or both.

I noticed you have more questions about the mantel, adding a third colour and the china cabinet vs. buffet.

For the mantel, I would remove the plants and leave it alone. If you had a mirror or art over the fireplace the items placed on the mantel would need to overlap with the art/mirror but since it doesn't look right to overlap with a TV I would just leave it alone.

Add yellow as your third colour. It is already on your walls and two pillows and you could expand on that - actually, you may need to because the wall colour needs to relate to more things in the space other than the two pillows. If you find a rug that has yellow, white, red and black then that will be your unifier for the space. Once you have the rug and make all the other updates you'll have a better idea of what colour to paint your sofa table, coffee table and the piece next to the fireplace; it would have to be a colour from your palette or you may decide to leave them as is.

I hear China cabinets are coming back but if you want to change things up then a buffet is nice and will open up the space especially if you hang a mirror over it. It'll bounce more light around the room and it will reflect your new chandelier and the art/plates across the room. Try placing the black & white table lamp from the living room onto the buffet and place another table lamp back into the living room - keep the lamp tall, like the one you have, so that it balances nicely with your sofa and try a larger shade.

I personally don't like tv's over a fireplace...I would hang it on the wall to the right of the fireplace.

I like your black and white run a lot... it gives it more of an old fashioned look. and has a quaintness that I love.

Photo #1: Paint coffee table black. On sofa: place yellow pillows behind black & white pillows.
Photo #2: The china cabinet looks nice and gives height to room, I'd keep it. Cut poster board to fit the back of china cabinet, and cover it with the black & white toile fabric or coordinating black and white fabric or fabric the same color as the walls or red fabric. Place on back of cabinet.
Photo #3: On either side of TV have plants that will trail down toward the floor. You have the greenish thumb I have ever seen! Beautiful plants. Don't paint the pretty table behind the sofa, leave as wood. Move the "book" table to the right so it is a little more under the art grouping or replace "book" table with the behind-the-sofa table & place many trailing plants on the top and plants on the floor underneath table so baseboards and wall do not show too much (protect your beautiful floors). Maybe a full length round skirt on the round table under the pretty square: toile or coordinating stripe or wall color.
