There's been lots of complaints on here about porcelain chipping. I personally would do a natural stone instead.

Here's a kitchen I did for a client several years ago with a green island. Very rustic...sure what your style is, but thought I'd share. They did leathered black pearl on perimeter and a more exotic stone on the island.

Can you please share if the island is quartzite? And stone on the counter. Interesting to me that it is ok to use 3 different stone types. It looks great. And the black works in that kitchen. If you did not use quartzite, do you have an opinion on durability for quartzite?
Also, wanted to share that I may be using one of these flooring options.

I was just considering going with one of the various choices of white granite thinking a white stone might look best beside the SW Dried Thyme cabinets and 117" island instead of the quartzite (Nacardo) you referred to in my earlier post. You described it as stunning and I do agree with you it is a beautiful stone!

Real stone countertops need to be sealed periodically, but are very durable. Quartz countertops, made of ground up pieces of stone glued together, are also very durable and give you more consistency and have lots of cool color options. I prefer the same color on all of the counters, but I’ve seen lots of pretty kitchens with muted perimeter countertops and wow islands. If you bake, having one countertop made out of marble can be helpful.

Thank you for your helpful comments. I ended up purchasing Granite (see link) for the island and countertops. For the backsplash, it was suggested by the store where the Granite was purchased to use muted white or beige subway tile instead of glossy tile due to the glare a shiny tile omits and will distract from the Granite countertops.

Some quartzite does need to be sealed but I'm guessing not the one referenced above. Mine have NEVER been sealed and look as good as the day they were installed over 5 years ago.
