One of the Publix family members has made some controversial political donations so that has made the chain a lightning rod for criticism. I'm not going to go into details here, it's all easily found on Google.

I stop whatever I’m doing to watch this ad when it comes on. (I haven’t heard of anyone who doesn’t like it.)

Publix has a lot of political baggage.

The company can be criticized, I criticize some of the family members. It’s still an excellent ad.

Yikes, not too many choices down here in Florida as far as supermarkets. Publix on every corner.

They really are known for their great service and well run, well stocked stores. My sisters, who live in NY & CA shop there practically every day when they visit 😄

I don’t mind watching the commercial, but must mute the sound whenever it comes on. It’s like fingernails on a chalk board to my ears. I did like their previous ad with the Cab Calloway number, however. THAT one I listened to but didn’t watch, lol.

We now have Publix in the big cities near me, but they are a distance for me to go to. We always shop Publix when we are in the Charleston area. I like Publix and what they sell, but I have to say I have never had "great" service. Not that I've had bad service either, just nothing special. They are very well stocked. When I still worked, I would frequent the one near my work place for items for receptions, lunch meetings, morning coffee meetings, etc. I believe others in my workplace ordered cakes for various celebrations in the department. They seem to have a good bakery.

I remember when I would visit my mother in Florida that Publix was a delight. I believe when they do customer satisfaction surveys, they were always #1. Maybe it's changed but that's what I remember. Clean, fresh, good prices.

I don't know if I even want to know their politics.

I can't imagine anyone having an issue with that commercial.

That's a charming ad. I can't see what's not to like about it! It's my favorite grocery store locally, although I typically only shop the sales there. It's a very pleasant shopping experience there, however.

Saw this ad recently. It's great, and I always loved watching Mary Martin's Peter Pan.

We have a small one nearby we call "little Publix" and a larger store we did our main shopping after moving here we call "big Publix." We used its Pharmacy. We were thrilled when an even bigger Publix opened, also with a pharmacy, which we call "new Publix." But we still shop little Publix if only a few things needed or one of us will be driving by.

Having shopped at Publix for decades, I agree their customer service is great. The stores are always clean. Shelves stay stocked (minus CV times), even during tourist season we can find everything on our list.

That’s funny Allison, we have the same collection of Publix stores in town. Our recent favorite is our ‘little Publix’ on the USF campus.

Since Greenwise Publix has disappeared, we now have 5 Publix stores within 4 miles of our lake cabin. A place that had zero Publix 10 years ago.

They are everywhere!

eta: the USF Publix should actually be called the tiny Publix. Aisles are short, half length of regular Publix. With a lot more space given to frozen pizza and beer. The most fun Publix, with 98% of the customers being students.

Allison, I could have written the same about the Publix stores near us. We formerly had the small Publix closest to us and had to travel further to go to a ’big Publix’. Then an old shopping center was remodeled and a large Publix became the anchor store and it is now the closest for us. We still occasionally drop into the smaller one too.

I do like that most of the people working there seem to stay on the job a long time. The people begin to recognize us after a while. And they also hire the mildly handcapped. I know of a couple who have worked there quite a while; one with Cerebral Palsy and the other autistic.

Now I'm hungry for corn on the cob. I'm thinking next month for us here in NE Ohio.

OutsidePlaying, DH’s grandson worked his way through college at Publix. They were very generous in their benefits and very accommodating with his work schedule. They would have even provided scholarship money if he had majored in certain fields. Sounds like a good place to work.

Publix employees can buy Publix Stock after working a certain amount of time, maybe a year. There are many stories of long term employees retiring as millionaires.

I have a nephew who started as a bagger as a high school student. He’s been promoted numerous times and now is in the IT department at the Lakeland Corporate office.

I was surprised that a new Publix will be opening when there are two others relatively close. Although one is in the next town.

I did here it will be a smaller one.

From what I notice, our small Publix does not have the sit down eating area. And shelf space isn’t as wide (?) as the larger stores. Instead of 5 rows of the same cereal there may be 2. No olive bar, and smaller florist area.

At the campus tiny Publix there are more hot meals offered, a sit down area, a kiosk with flowers. No pharmacy. Smaller bakery. Tiny Publix also has smaller carts.

Our new Giant Publix has wine and beer by the cup so you can sip while shopping.

None of our Publix have a sit down area, and I am glad they don't serve wine and beer by the cup. That's all a tourist town needs. Carts are the same size. I can see how those things would be in a campus.

Smaller new Publixs has 3 tables, Big Publix may have 8. Even the tiny P has tables, all ground floor near the front of the store.

The new giant Publix’s are being built with a mezzanine used for the eating area. The one near our lake cabin has charger stations. And an attendant that swoops in to clean after customers.

eta: to add ’new’ to which small type Publix has the tables. Our in Town small P has no tables. Our newer smaller P near the cabin does have seating.

The one near work has a very good seafood counter. They get a lot of fresh fish. I love their crab cakes, though, like everything else, they have really gone up in price to about $3.99 each. But they are so good. I also stop there when HT is somehow out of something I didn’t get on my online order.

Also the bakery often has chocolate covered strawberries.

Hmm, I have shopped at Publix in FL while on vacation over the years. I find them to be entirely ordinary. Perfectly fine but nothing special, in terms of what is on offer. My kids did like going to the one in Miami Beach that looks like a boat, when we used to vacation on Fisher Island.

I rarely shop at large grocery stores. Most of the space is taken up with like 15 product line extensions for Oreos and 10 types of Tide. I don't need any of that. In CT we go to a store that has been in the area for like 75 years; a "chain" of three, all medium-sized stores, and we go to WF and TJ and a lot of specialty stores for produce, fish, bread, cheese, meats. In Maine, we go to a relatively small market, supplemented by WF and TJ and wonderful specialty markets.

@mtnrdredux_gw For too many years, food shopping in Florida was the choice between Publix and Winn Dixie (aka Kwik Chek).

Tampa now has one Trader Joes (17 miles away) a treat for us to stop in there. Fresh Market is fun to visit, but it is also a long drive for us. Same with Whole Foods (2).

Aldi stores are appearing everywhere.

We have a 45 minute drive to our cabin. It seemed like there were 100s (Dh said only 7) Aldi’s in various stages of construction on the route. Half the route is on the Interstate.

I like smaller, get in and get out stores.

Me, too. We’re close to Aldi’s, so that’s my usual. I love Central Market, but it’s always too dang crowded.

Our Aldi's has this terrible low black ceiling with exposed pipes and ductwork. It's not the least bit pleasant in there, I wish it were nicer.

Sounds like the WF near our last house.

I go with a list, rarely vary from it, and know where everything is in both stores (small and new). So in and out is easy. TJ is 2 hours away. WF is 45=60+. Not going to happen unless I am near there. Fresh Market 20-30min, so I go there now and then, if already nearby.

Interesting about seating. The Publix I shop in and also two others I have been to, do not have seating.

I did hear the new small one coming will have seating. Not really something I would do but it seems nice in theory.

That's cute though I could see how the song might get on your nerves after a while if you heard this ad very often. We have a regional chain called Hy-Vee (based in Iowa) and they had this ad during the pandemic with what seemed like a catchy tune at first. I finally had to start hitting mute to prevent myself from going out of my mind every time it came on which seemed like 50 times a day. I even contacted the company and told them the ad had run it's course and it was now preventing me from ever shopping at the store - time to shelve it. They ignored me - I don't shop there - bad vibes from that gawd awful song.

Eld, basically the small Publix is a smaller footprint and will carry smaller quantities of almost everything. Generally they are located in smaller niche neighborhoods, not on main travel routes. Funny, it is almost as if they were testing the market when they built the small one. And now here we are with the big one a few miles away on a busy road and yes, it has a mezzanine. Ive been there at lunch when it looked as if several were buying subs, salads or whatever from the deli and taking their food upstairs to eat.
