here is a picture showing the spring between the housing and the can. Any ideas on brand?

First, turn off the electricity before messing with the light. One one side, I'd use a screwdriver or other thin, flat instrument to push the spring inward so the light can be pulled down past the groove in the housing. Repeat on the other side and then pull the light down to remove it from the housing.

I was only taking the pictures there but regardless always good advice. I tried pushing on the spring with a screwdriver but couldnt get the spring to move enough. Are you familiar with this brand? I wonder if the spring is attached to the can and needs to be released as well or is it attached to a fly arm

If you can determine the brand, call the manufacturer for advice.
