What is your budget? What is the view outside of that window?

I find that very high round-top windows are impractical. They let in a lot of unwanted light and glare and it's difficult and expensive to cover them. Once you do cover them, you usually don't open the blinds/shades. I would remove that window and replace it with two side by side. I had three of those windows and I just removed the last of them--and I said good riddance to them!

From looking at your photos, I'd place the bed on the wall between the existing two windows.

Hmm - I hadn't really thought of a budget. I am honestly not sure. You can't really see the outside - I believe it is about 6 feet off the ground. This room is above the attached double garage. You can see trees, sky and the odd airplane :)

I was leaning to the bed in the same area - so it is nice to imagine I am on the right track. I hadn't thought of simply changing the window!!

@Kat Smith I'd try not to block the air vents, so I agree with Diana about placement.

Otherwise I suppose you could have a canopy bed centerd on the wall with the big window and pull it away from that wall just enough so it's not over the air vent. That way the canopy would block the light from hitting the bed. But then, you'd have to like a canopy bed. I saw a couple with arches like the window. Most were flat across the top though. And I saw some canopies you could buy with a black-out fabric.

I'm a bit confused--if the room is over a garage, how is the window 6 feet off the ground? Do you mean it's 6 feet higher than the floor? It sounds like you will have a nice view for lower windows.

And you are totally right Diana - my description is terrible. It is six feet from the floor of the bedroom (not the ground) A canopy bed would make good use of the space below the window.

This seems to be the only arched window.

I would get rid of the rounded window, move the bed to that wall and then replace the other windows with much larger ones. Easy to say, but requires time and money!

You can also get custom room darkening blinds for the windows that are battery operated, so they will be easier to open/close.

IMO remove the window and replace with one thta actually is a window you can see out of and if that is not doable close off that window and add larger window where the 2 small ones are if that big one was added for some code. That is just all wrong and needs to go .

This is why using a window planner is helpful for the design of a home. Personally do not like arched windows, esp where there needs to be light control ie bedrooms.

If you have the money to get rid of it do so. Also the two small windows are too far apart there needs to be one or two more in between. Another thing always put in windows that open to create airflow.

I would do an inside mount roman shade. it would have to be custom to fit the curve.

It would pull up only to where the curve begins but you would have light control.

Looks as though the bed was to be placed beneath the arched window.

Use a motorized arch shade for the window.

Now that you show the exterior of the house, you cannot place any windows lower than the bottom of the arched one. So unless you want to eliminate any light from that wall, you will need to keep it. Bev's idea with the motorized shade is a good one.

Great feedback. it really helps to visualize the bed. For aome teason i thought the bed would be lower i will look into tge motirized shade!

Just in case you liked the idea of a canopy bed, there are some that are just 6' high. You said that was the height from the floor to the bottom of the window.

Good Advice! i dont plan to purchase the furniture until after i am settled in the home!
