An FFO and More Late Scapes for August

last modified: 3 years ago

Palace Garden Beauty took a long time to put up a scape this season. It had its ffo on Aug. 1.

Minstrel Singer started blooming on a late emerging scape yesterday. It had bloomed back in early June on two scapes.

Dragonfly Dawn usually is one of the earliest to bloom, and often starts in late May. It put up three scapes at the end of July, all three very short.

Strawberry Alarm Clock has three scapes going, one is a rebloom scape and the other two are late emerging scapes.

Royal Jester - I have two clumps of this and they both had very short scapes this time, many of which were down in the foliage. The deer ate most of the buds on the front yard clump, but they left the backyard clump alone.

Last Chance for Romance - Deer got buds on two scapes just three days after I sprayed. It's like they don't care how bad the buds smell anymore.

Tart With a Heart is still going.

Innocent Discovery X Dearest Valentine 1 looks better now that we're back in the high 80s again.

Dr. Jules Michael Vinkman is still blooming on two late scapes.

White Tooth X Skater #4 is my longest continuously blooming seedling this year. It had three instant rebloom scapes and one later rebloom scape. It's been blooming since May 29th. I really like this one, and so does that Carpenter Bee!

Another White Tooth X Skater kid that is still reblooming is this one.

(Palace Garden Beauty X Karelia) X This Longing is till blooming on two late scapes. The Carpenter Bee thinks it's tasty!

I have a few more still blooming, a late near white seedling, Arctic Lace, Memphis, Ruth Watkins Davidson, White Ambrosia and Star Lord.

My favorites are Tart with a Heart, Minstrel Singer and a beautiful trio of Jesters!

Sorry about the deer damage, gosh even the sprayed ones. But how excellent that some of them decided to send late scapes!

My favorite seedlings are Innocent Discovery x Dearest Valentine 1 and another White Tooth x Skater. The Bee choices are also very nice.

My Arctic Lace is reblooming this year, yay! How can I not love it?

Wow Nat, how cool you have rebloom! Rare for you? White Tooth X Skater #4 is my favorite…… a pretty purple and a great performer. Last Chance forRomance looks so good today…..still don’t know if I still have it, hasn’t shown up. Minstrel Singer is also on my favorite list today.

Skater #4 would be a good match for Sword of Justice. What are your plans for Tart with a Heart?

Last Chance for Romance is always such a good late bloomer for you. Those White Tooth seedlings are really pretty. I would think Tart With a Heart would be gorgeous in clump form. I like the looks of the Innocent Discovery seedling.

Kate - Yes, I always count on Last Chance to be a pretty clump in the late season. Even with less buds this time, it's a bright spot in the August garden.

My favorite is Minstrel Singer. The blended yellow color and perfect form are so pretty in your picture. Yellow is not just yellow. So many things can add to it to make it special..............Maryl
