Anyone know how we’d go about removing these?beams?

Any thoughts on how to remove the 2 pieces of wood (do we think they are wood?) on either side of the fireplace?

Drive shims between the wall and the beams. Maybe slide a drywall knife between them and then a wrecking bar between the knife and the beam.

Using shims/wedges works if the "beams" were applied to the surface after the wall and ceiling were finished. But, if they aren't simply decorative and are deeper than the wall surface or extend above the ceiling surface then it is going to be more complex. And you will have a bit of repair work to do afterwards, whatever you find.

It might be easier (depending on what's underneath) to add drywall between the columns. You'd still have vertical lines on the sides, but it would be less prominent.
