Looking for affordable counters in kitchen Reno

We just redid our floors in our kitchen and are looking for countertop ideas. Wondering if there are ideas that are creative or more affordable than stone (but not laminate). Pictured is the floor, original wood cabinets we are keeping, some backsplash samples we haven't decided on and were just playing around with. Our house is a 70s side split ..lots of oak haha. Need to repaint still. Included a pic I found of light maple countertops with darker wood cabinets..option?

Nothing at all wrong with laminate. Especially if you are on a budget.

I suggested the same to my husband but he vetoed..maybe I'll convince him of stone then haha

If you have a lot of light in the room, take a look at steel gray granite. It is one of the most affordable stones and many have say it holds up very well. Will also look good some of the backsplash options you've displayed.

solidsurface.com has overstock full sheets of material. Not sure it's DIY for the average homeowner but with practice / research - you could probably get a good result.

But second the plainer granites that are super durable, classic and usually reasonable to have installed professionally.

I saw some laminates today in a showroom that are show-stoppers! Very realistic, and if they are the only thing a budget would allow, one would be very pleased with it.

Laminates today are not the same as those from our parents'/grandparents' time. Has your DH seen today's laminates?

I am a fan of laminate. However, not the laminate in the house I bought. It is a matte finish and scratches easily. There are other laminates with a much more durable finish that I would choose as an option.
