Any interest in replacing the carpet with hardwood? At the moment the walls, furniture and carpet are all nearly the same color. If you aren't going to remove the carpet, an area rug will help, but once you choose one, change out the curtains and/or paint the walls using a color from the rug. I can't tell from what you have in the room what your style is. The grandfather clock is saying traditional but the lamps and sofa are less so. I also don't know what colors you like. The advantage of everything being so neutral right now is that you do have an opportunity to introduce almost any color in a rug. Blue and green come to mind. I don't see anything wrong with the coffee table if you want to keep it. Your wood pieces don't need to match exactly, so have you looked at dark wood end tables? If you're considering some, post pictures of them in the comment section. Art and other decor come last.

My dog sheds alot, so right now, wall to wall carpet is my best friend. I would

like a summer area rug but am not sure what style/design would work. Any pictures of rugs that would work would be a great help. I love earth tones, natural elements, rustic/vintage items, pottery, enjoy a pop of color and also love a great statement piece. Transitional style is what I prefer. If the coffee table works, that is great. I do prefer darker woods and would love pictures of end tables that may work. How many and where do I place them? Also, what table lamps would work with the end tables?

I’m having a hard time arranging my room due the all the doors and the patio door placement.

The grandfather clock was made by father as a gift to me.

The pictures included now are the dark brown velvet curtains with the Chris loves Julia rug. Also some end tables I like, but I am open to anything. Not for an excuse, but my brain injury left me with processing difficulties so putting things together has become a challenge. I see so much I like but just can’t seem to put it all together. Are you very attached to the sofa? Because I think your room would work better if you had chairs for seating and no sofa. I would move the big dark chair and the white chair to where your sofa now is, and separate them with the cube marble end table. (Put the dark closer to the fireplace, and the white chair closer to kitchen.

Then I would buy two more chairs. A smaller dark swivel chair to be near the TV, and whatever chair you like for the right side of the fireplace.

I would also get a floor lamp that is more like a reading lamp, with a head that points downward, and a cabinet for under the TV.

For art over your fireplace, what might look nice is work that has a circle in it -- in a square frame. If I can find a picture I will show you.

and an inexpensive dog-friendly area rug to go over the carpet might look good. An open console table like the one in the photo below might look nice under your TV

Thank you so much for your suggestions! They are wonderful. The sofa (reclines & massages for my back issues) and chairs are new so I will keep them for now but will definitely keep in mind your chair suggestions as I do very much like them. I am open to switching the olive green chair (see picture below) and white chair if that would work better. I was thinking for the future to have them on either side of the fireplace if/when I can get the tv above the fireplace with the sofa facing it. I like your picture suggestion- I swap pictures with the seasons.

I also like your reading lamp suggestion/pictures. Where would I place it and do I also use the current floor lamp? I do not have recessed lighting currently. A dilemma has been how many end tables, placement and what table top lamps to use. I thrift-ed the coffee table for now but another suggestion/picture(s) would be very much appreciated and I will get another as soon as I can.

I love how you brought the grandfather clock in (I hadn't thought of that) and like your bar stool and picture suggestions. Do I stay with the 3 piece rule and use 3 stools? The bar top is 71 1/2 inches long and 44 inches from the sofa.

I love distressed/vintage pieces also. Maybe for end tables/coffee table? I have a three leaf clover end table (will have to add in next comment), if it would work. Would it would work to strip it and make it more vintage to be more appealing like the picture below? i also have in the next comment a small end table, don't know if that would work anywhere. If the tables really do not work, I can resell them/use them somewhere else. I'm not sure on what wood colors to have. My kitchen and study (beside the green chair) have a cool toned wood floor(picture in next comment) that is more ash like (gray, brown and camel? color). My iphone is not capturing the color correctly, the picture is lighter and grayer than the floor. The floor is actually more medium and a little darker toned browns.

I was thinking that you might like to use the chair to the right of the fireplace for reading, and I now see you have brought a small table to that corner, next to the white chair. You could just put a reading lamp on it -- or try your clover leaf table in that spot. Home Depot and Amazon sells this lamp, and i'm sure they have others

I hear you about keeping your favorite massage sofa. If you need 2 chairs in the room as well as the sofa, it probably makes sense at some point to get a smaller chair than the big dark one. It's possible your room would look more "balanced" if the big dark chair and the white chair swapped places right now. But if you have back issues, get somebody else to do this experiment, because you might want to move everything back again!

I buy a lot of vintage furniture and I never fuss with refinishing it beyond taking a marker and making a few scratches disappear. I put a tray or a coaster or a book over any really bad spots! You might be more particular than I am, or enjoy doing refinishing.

I would buy just one old-fashioned bar stool and see how you like it. Then buy more if you want more. If you like bentwood furniture, it is actually pretty easy to find bentwood rockers online at good prices and in nice shape, in various hues of wood. If you decide to get rid of the very big dark chair, and your back is okay with a rocker, then a bentwood rocker with a pillow cushion and throw might look really nice near your TV, and easy to move out of the way if need be.

I love your choices of furniture and the cheetah print is an awesome statement print. I will absolutely keep in mind your chairs for the future. I’ve always loved the Bentwood rockers! That would be an awesome look. I will also be looking for a bar stool like you suggested! You are on par with what my tastes are.

I’m not really particular with my furniture as far a it having used marks on it. I also can also cover up or refurnish. I do no like evrything looking new and polished. Loved a lived in look & vintage items.

I really like your choice of the blue carpet & am looking at ordering it. I have a couple places for the cheetah print. Not sure what wall would look best (besides above the fireplace!) Please see attached pictures.

Vanilla chair corner: added a couple things just to visually see something in that corner. Put a large print on the wall by the tv to see what to do with that wall. Should I do one print, gallery wall or something else? The cheetah print?

Would I still use the nice smaller rectangular reading light you suggested? Use the floor lamp you suggested? A different end table?
