Can you show a picture from the side? Top down pictures are hard to id from because we can't see the leaf arrangement or stem.

Yes agree that it looks like a fall Aster such as Symphyotrichum novae-angliae. Perhaps 'Purple Dome' or similar.

I keep Symphyotrichum aka Aster novae-angliae Purple DOme, and the plant in the pic looks awfully similiar to my plants: the foliage, its shape, hairy surface and the dense clump of the plant that spreads by short rhizomes. it should flower purple

they do seed and produce volunteers, but purple Dome ist the dwarf version, its offsprings tend to get tall and wishy-washy pink

The label actually says Aster 'Purple Dome'. Are you sure it's from a different plant?

I could not read that on my computer.. Well that confirms my thought! It can be tough to ID plants lat62. Perhaps 2 tags got switched.

Thanks everybody, I’ll tell her that the label likely is correct after all… not sure why she didnt think so.
