I don't think you necessarily have too much yellow, but I would add some red-orange and blue pillows to go with the painting. The pillows don't have to be solid colors. A little pattern would be interesting. Bring some home to try. They're easy to return even if you order online because they're light.

It's the rug. ... too drab for the modern space.

Try putting the lumbar pillows on the two white chairs.

Potterybarn.com has a great rug named Capitola... comes in many colors, I personally would choose either this light blue or the dark blue option.

The track lights on the art are COOL and the bulbs in the lamps are WARM. Very distracting.

Looks great. You do not have too much yellow, all of the chairs are perfect, you don't need to load up on pillows, and the rug is wonderful. I think you just need more life and personal belongings in here because it looks a bit like an office or waiting room. Add a low plant to the coffee table, stack some coffee table books that you like and are not just props, add some objects that have meaning and interest to you, and put a tray down that has some texture or color. A basket or object on the bottom shelf of the glass side tables would help as well. Get a contemporary throw to put over the arm of the sofa nearest the camera.

You might consider adding some orange and green accents as well. It would all integrate well since all the colors are in the painting.
