They don't like a lot of water and that's how I interpreted what she wants. Small, low-light & drought tolerant. We've had them in our store. I hardly ever watered them and they were happy. We had the kind with red veins so maybe they need less water compared to the green and white ones.

Thank you for these suggestions. I think the grocery store might have had some Haworthia, but they were unhelpfully just labelled "succulent," and I wasn't sure whether that's really what they were.

Desert-test tolerant means what it sounds like ... I might miss a watering or two, and I'll like that to not hurt it much. There are a lot of plants that don't bounce back well if they get a little wilty ... The silver ribbon fern couldn't tolerate missed watering; it failed the desert test. A jade or aloe would pass the desert-test with flying colors, but they want more light (pity, since I could easily nab a piece of jade ... or five.)

Some Aloes are surprisingly tolerant of lower light. Aloe bellatula is a diminutive plant that blooms in the spring and fall around the equinoxes.

Various Rhipsalis can be kept small by trimming away excess growth if desired. Won't die unless it goes w/o water for a very long time. Probably won't bloom in lower light, but for most Rhipsalis, the blooms aren't the "wow" type anyway.
