What is best is a combination of Plugmold and a couple of receptacles in the backsplash. Plugmold in order to adhere to Building Code rules of kitchen receptacles without having so many in the wall. A couple of receptacles in the backsplash so that the counter appliances that stay plugged in like coffee maker and toaster do not have their cords dangling from the Plugmold. The backsplash receptacles should be installed horizontally and low - a height of about 3-4" on center from the counter is ideal.

I just have the receptacles in the backsplash, low and horizontal like I said. Once I saw how unobtrusive they are with that placement, I did not mind installing the Code-required number that way, and not bothering with Plugmold. But that depends on your kitchen's individual layout whether Plugmold might be needed in some locations.

Not all plugmold is the same. Some are flat with a thinner profile and some are slanted and more bulky.

No regrets using the plugmold, except for the one spot that should have had a receptacle! Luckily it isn't visible unless someone walks all the way into the kitchen. If I am giving someone the house tour, I unplug the 3 counter appliances, so it looks picture perfect!!

I'm with M Miller and chispa. Outlets plus plugmold gives the best mix of appearance and function. I love our plugmold above the prep countertops. It's easy to plug in the immersion blender, spice grinder, or Vitamix without having to move any countertop items. But I'm glad we have low outlets for the coffee equipment, and I wish we had put in an outlet for the stand mixer.

I have this one on the side of my island, required by code. Pretty "invisible" on the white cabinets and faces the sink wall, so not visible at all from anywhere else in the house.

My electrician tried to tuck it up into the corner of the molding, but there was something in the way.

I do not like the looks of the cords hanging down from the cabinet at least with wall plugs you can hide most of them mY island plugs are in a section under the counter at the ends of both sides of my island .

Love my plugmolds. However, there are no appliances that I keep stored and plugged in regularly on my counter. If I did keep a toaster or coffee maker out, I think I would plug and unplug it each time because the look of the dangling cord would seriously annoy me.
