If your rug has different colors in it, choose one of those for the tablecloth.

If your rug is one solid color, you could find a tablecloth that goes with that color rather than match the same color.

If your rug is solid, you could also get a pattern tablecloth that has the rug color in it.

IMO you do not leave the tablecloth on the table when not dining so the tablecloth goes with the table setting not the rug.

Then I guess you use the rug I really dilike seeing tables with table cloths on them even under plastic matt.

Our tablecloth is always on the table. Are we lazy? We like it though.

it's made from some type of vinyl coated cloth we found from Italy. Waterproof. They are not formal, but they are convenient for us for everyday use.

As a personal preference, I only would consider a tablecloth for a formal dinner. Most of the tablecloths look like rags on the table

I prefer placemats to set a more interesting table. However, these can be issues when you have kids or sloppy relatives. I have recommended the clear stretch plastic/elastic table top covers.

I also like the clear vinyl film to protect the table.
