I would have to create a special reason to go down to such a space. I might make it a wine cellar. Another temptation would be a music practice room. Language practice too.

Doesn't look like a good space to watch TV at all.

Replace door with a sliding barn door so a desk can be placed at the window and/or to open the space to other possibilities. Remove shelves so the wall can be used to project movies if your really considering doing any TV viewing in there. Tiny smart projectors are about $200. Try these pillows too... obviously comfortable side by side chairs won't work.

I'd have it all tricked out with LED starlight ceiling... but that's just me. :P

You don't need storage space? Because its previous life as a gaming room doesn't have to constrain you -- some heavy-duty shelves on one wall could hold a ton. For a craft room, I'd repaint in fun colors (maybe each side wall a different pastel?) and get a nice (white) table with a chair or two for the long wall on the right. Then the "bookcase" can be made into storage for supplies and books -- could be really neat!

What kind of storage and so forth depend on the crafts or hobbies. Heck, you could even use part of this space for gift wrapping! Anyway, had fun finding colorful examples.

I'd carefully remove the door frame inside and out and reinstall to open out.

Because it's in the basement I would fill one side with utility shelves and call it good. Who doesn't need a store room. The previous owner messed up our basement royally and put in a 8x14 room with full bi fold door closet so no way a bed can fit in it. He used to to fill shot gun shells. Man cave I guess. We have a freezer and shelves there. Back in the day I had a bedroom smaller yet. Closet was at one end so one could get one set of bunk beds in. I loved my bedroom under the eaves but I was 10.

I’m in the storage camp, but try to avoid “ junk room/ closet”.

Think about ways this space could improve QOL in OTHER areas of your home. What things do you need/ use but less frequently, or maybe a category, but are crowding space elsewhere? Of course this depends on whether you have another garage, or attic, or what closets. I try to do as much point-of- use storage, or logical places, but also think what things I don’t mind going to my garage to get. Also attic, but I know I won’t ever just “ grab” something from attic. But some things need inside climate- control. Is this room well- ventilated/ heat/ cool or is it damp or musty? That makes a difference. Also I’m not clear on how this space relates to the rest of the house. Is it now part of a finished basement or walkout or a ground floor of adjacent living areas, or just by itself?

But there have been a variety of suggested uses, which should give the OP some food for thought.

As noted, there’s not much information about the family’s needs and lifestyle , or the other spaces, in order to think about what goes where , what is best done where. Plus, a space like this can be re- purposed as needs change.

Would that I had a trust fund....when I lived in a major Western capital (NYC) in a tiny studio apartment....
