Here in my garden in central Indiana, I didn't have any hornworms this year, and I haven't seen any hummingbird moths......which is unfortunate, because they are soooo beautiful. I don't think I saw any of the hornworms or the moths last year either. I know some are happy about not having them around, but I think they're neat. Actually, I didn't have ANY of the usual insects in my garden this year, which is a bit disconcerting........I hope it's not a sign of things to come, in terms of the insect world disappearing.

I used to see hummingbird moths on my Grandfather's land when I was young; there were a lot of them on the lilacs when those were in bloom. A lot of large, colorful hawk moths were attracted to lights too. All of those have mostly disappeared now. About 20 years ago there was aerial spraying to combat gypsy moth, I'm guessing it killed all of those too. No tomato hornworms now either... but I would gladly put up with them to get all of the others back.

We had a big rain year after 4 years of drought, so a lot of things are coming back!
