Hellebores are evergreen. If you cut off foliage now, while it is still the growing season, the natural response is to send up more leaves. There is no need to remove any foliage unless it has got ratty. This is usually in late winter, by which time the flowers will be emerging.

My hellebore still looks glorious, huge beautiful leaves, its best season ever. No dying back here.

The leaves were all green and not really looking ratty, but I noticed the new green leaves emerging. As I said I cut those leaves back to photograph the new! Duh!🙄

I agree gg. In another post I showed that I have several hostas that already bloomed and now have what I think Pieter called latent blooms. Have had this several years now. Maybe that deserves a new post….🤔

I clip ratty leaves once a year in the spring..that’s it..

Chiming in about the Columbine. My Golden Columbine waited until August to flower this year. Usually a spring bloomer.

I have Ivory Prince too..it’s leaves are darker than the ones in front..
