Window drapes/curtains

I have an open floor plan and a dining nook that has a bay window.

I would like to put drapes in my living room and also the nook. I'll attach a picture so you can see how it's kind of hard to pull it off given the niche in the nook is wallpapered with grasscloth type of paper with blue tiny herringbone pattern.

I'm not sure all curtains need to be the same all over (10 panels) or is it ok to go with something similar for the nook but that somehow matches the living room panels.

Attached is a picture that is identical to my house but it has all white curtains, which is kind of easy to make it work.

For the living room I really wanted a grayblue damask ( 6 panels ) and for the nook ( 4 panels ) I don't know... ( because they'll be next to the wallpaper). Should all panels be the same... or not ?

Looking forward to some advice on this. Thanks!

I think it depends on the feeling you want. In the photo you show with all white curtains, the feeling is enormous and I actually had to look through picture closely to figure out where the nook was. But a different way to do it would be to emphasize that the nook is a nook, which makes it a charming spot for people to be.

One thing you might want to avoid is trying to make 2 different sets of curtains compliment each other by being close in color and pattern but ending up having it look like you couldn't find 10 panels so you had to substitute 4 different ones and you hope nobody notices!

If it is done just right, sometimes it is fantastic to have the same curtains in different colors, or a truly great pairing of different curtains that relate to each other perfectly -- if you can get it just right. But sometimes it looks fab if you go for dramatically different -- you know, red or yellow or lime or whatever that isn't gray damask.

Probably people can't answer your question about the wallpaper + drapes without seeing a picture of the wallpaper and any other colors or patterns you've chosen for the nook

What about the idea? ( not that it's the pattern I want ) but if I found a " blue dots on white" for the nook and " white dots on blue" for the rest of the house, would ou consider that " done just right" @mytwo cents?

I was more thinking that let's say someone had a big antique oil painting in their living room, a portrait of a woman in a red velvet dress, seated in a gray room, and gray damask panels on the living room windows, then in the dining space they had red velvet drapes, against a dark gray wall, it might really work in a great way. Meaning, there would be a reason to have the difference in curtains but to have the 2 rooms linked.

I know you don't want the dots in 2 different colorways, but I can imagine in would be perfect in a kid's bedroom if there was a nook.

In your space I think you have to decide if you want the nook to feel like a separate space and use the curtains to help you make it one, or if you want the grand sweep of all the rooms united, and the nook floats there as part of that. I'm guessing you have a sample of the gray damask that you can put it right next to the herringbone wallpaper and see what you think.

I think you run a risk if you do all gray damask that the nook will seem like part of a large reception area, like in a hotel lobby. It's very hard for me to be sure of color tones on my device, so I'm not really sure what color is on your dining chairs, but I'm wondering if pale blue moire-like fabric would be a nice drape that would go with your gray damask
