If the contractor made the error in measuring, it’s his responsibility to fix it. Also, the shelves on the rendering are wood, but actual shelves are painted…is that another mistake or was the specified finish changed?

"Cabinet guys sent us 30 inches shelf thanks to our contractor who did the wrong measurements." Have you made your final payment to your contractor? Tell your contractor he measured incorrectly and needs to have new shelves made for you. If he doesn't, then withhold that $1k from his final payment.

I had to do the same thing with a contractor who mismeasured the size of a custom door. He thought I wouldn't notice if he glued 3" strips of wood to each edge. I insisted he get a new door. After a lot of back and forth and ridiculousness he finally capitulated. They measure incorrectly, they should pay the price.

It’s the contractor’s responsibility to fix the contractor’s mistake.

No fix will look right. Replace with the correctly sized shelves.

Thanks all! The Shelves were special order I don’t know why, so replacing them is matter of another 4-6 weeks. We don’t want to delay the project for that. I can deduct the amount from the remaining but it doesn’t solve the problem. I’m looking for a solution to somehow make it work.
Should I put some panels around the wall such as shiplap or fluted panels around the three sides if shelves to fill the space and then install them.
I’m reaching out to the community here hoping at least someone has experienced these cabinetry measurements malfunctions 🫤 and can suggest a solution from design perspective that will look good and also save my time and money !

How are they being mounted? Were they ordered as floating shelves or columns?

You could go ahead and hang them centered . Or maybe go back to the cabinet manufacturer and see if they sell a box column. Then order one that can be cut to fit the space. Not sure why that needs to be custom.

Honestly, this might be a happy mistake. The thinner wood shelves in the rendering look better than the thick one you are holding.

Wait the 4-6 weeks. It’s really not that long. Everything else you try may look slapdash especially since you planned these shelves.

I would like to see how these are going to be attached too. When you say about 33" that is for sure not exact either. IMO wait until you get the proper shelves it will not really affect the function of the space and honestly I have no isdea what the reason was for those instead of cabinets to match the other side .

Considering the time, energy and money that you put in this I would also suggest waiting, it might seem like a long time but it's better to have it perfect than have it look like it was fixed-up especially since it's a brand new kitchen. I also prefer the wooden ones from the render rather than the painted ones not sure if that was done on purpose or it's a mix-up. It's a beautiful kitchen and I'm sure the wait will pay off.

Have them order the right size shelves, finish everything else in your kitchen and wait 4-6 weeks for the new shelves to come in and get installed.

When my sister did her kitchen the island countertop was broken by the installers and she had to live with a sheet of plywood for 2 months while they got another countertop in and fabricated.

10 years later those two months faded to a distant memory, even though she had to live with plywood for her first Christmas Holiday dinner in her new home.
