Hunter Ceiling Fan light gone wacko.

Hi all, we have an older model Hunter Ceiling Fan with light fixture. It’s controlled on/off by wall switch & by remote control. Model #’s are 20465 (fan) & 27185 (remote). Once the light is switched to on, it begins going from Bright to Dim & repeats this process over & over. If we hit any button on the remote it will stop as long as the button is held down. Then when released it continues.. bright to dim. I’ve read some models can be reset by remote. But it didn’t work for our model. I’ve looked in the light assembly canopy to see if I could see a reset button there. But saw only wires & little boxes- no resets. I may have missed it.. I can’t be sure. I’ve read here there may be replacement parts available at “big boxes”? But I’m not familiar with it. Nor with what parts I need to fix this issue. I’m usually handy enough to fix it DIY. Just need a little guidance for our model so I head it the right direction. As I’m not finding model specific info & issue together online anywhere. Appreciate all help in advance A LOT! 😊. Is the light kit just a fixture with a bunch of wires, or does it have electronics built in? If the former, it is very unlikely the light kit is defective and the electronics in the remote control are acting up, regardless of input from the handheld controller. If the latter, it could be one or the other, but i would be more enclined to think it's the remote that is bad.

My experience with fan remote control kits like the one you have is that they only work for a few years before going bad or acting up. I would try a new remote kit before throwing away a good working fan.

You can buy a whole new light fixture, that will fit your fan.

If it stops doing it when you press any button on the remote control, i would think it's very likely that the remote is defective and not the light fixture. The light is just doing what it's told to do by the remote control. What kind of bulbs is currently installed in the fixture?

It could be the remote. But the light continues to do it even with the battery out of the remote. I’ve toggled the switches inside to different settings.. put them back. Nothing changes. We are using halogen bulbs in the light. The same kind that have worked the entire time.

Unless your ceiling fan is at the top of a very high ceiling; changing it yourself is really quite easy. I installed several new ceiling fans in our home recently; it takes a little longer than installing a standard light fixture, but is no harder than that. There are installation videos available at online sales sites that accompany many make/models of fans. Lots of DIY videos on youtube as well. Prices at big box stores are very reasonable; lots of styles and features available. Probs faster and easier to replace the whole thing than to diagnose the problem and have to hunt down old, rare parts.
