I would not paint the concrete.

Find a great Poly rug and add some interest to what you have.

I personally would paint the ceiling a pale blue to add some interest.

you didn't mention the size, but you should be able to find a rug to fit the space.

you could change it out for the seasons...

Good thought and certainly the easiest solution! It's not a big landing, about 5x10 (or smaller).

I would paint the post, handrail, and spindles all white to match your trim. Leave the brown for the wood floor of the deck.

Believe it or not, we just stained the deck! I had wanted to do white post, handrails, etc. as you suggested but the contractor strongly recommended against painting. He said it would not last as long as the stain, particularly in the south Texas sun. I'm fine with the cordovan brown stain now. The white paint gets dirty real quickly anyways (we have our front porch done that way), especially with all the birds we have pooping in the backyard!

I really just need to figure out what to do with the ugly concrete pad.
