Wow that stinks. It will have to be a heat proof material so stainless steel comes to mind. You may also want to check the clearance requirements on that stove, the current backsplash looks like engineered quartz which can't take heat exposure

I'd probably put a stainless backsplash from the counter to the range hood at the new height rather than having a stripe of a different material. I don't think you want a shelf, a seam with a mismatched vein of quartz or a different material like an 8" piece of stainless at the top.

You could probably get one fabricated to just fit over the quartz.

Stainless may look like you planned it that way all along.

I’m confused. How is a range installed too low? Do you mean the venthood?

Get rid of the quartz.

No quartz for sure and I have no clue what you are talking about the range is exactly where it belongs but the hood is all wrong and I never like painted hoods and for sure not above gas ranges

Dotty sometimes you can correct even your title. Or at least you used to be able to. You would see three dots on the right side of your main and other postings and would choose the edit function. I would just add the word Hood. In other words range hood if it's it at all possible. Sometimes this site can be a little glitchy..

I would do the stainless steel as well. It's not a look for everyone but it would solve a multitude problems with the redesign.

Your hood would also have been better at 42" wide (or more) and not 36" wide like the range.

What is the current distance b/w the hood and the grates?

In addition to the hood apparently not overlapping the front burners to enable plume capture from them, the 'island' configuration of the cooktop is for use with islands and counters with significant distance between cooktop and wall. Unless the wall is completely xxxxxx non-combustible through its depth, the back of the cooktop needs an approved riser/backguard.

That hood is completely the wrong size and is not flattering. Remove it and replace with a stainless hood which would then tie in to stainless behind the stove up to the new stainless hood.

The hood was designed with a heavy hand and is out of proportion to the kitchen cabinets.

If that's quartz behind the range it's going to burn.

A more minimal hood would have been a better direction.

Thank you Beverly. My carpenters are coming today to see if they can raise it by decinstructing it and making it more low profile. Will post an update if the result is worth sharing :).

It's rather a poor and too heavy design. I'm not sure why the pot filler is even there, given I see a dishwasher alongside.......meaning a very near sink?

Off with it as well , go to a stainless hood please, and tile the backsplash.
