Just my opinion but the column should be proportionate to what it's holding up and that's not very much. Anything larger than 6 x 6 to overkill.

Your canopy is nearly as big as this below and these columns are 6x6 with porch railings of 4x4

A 9 1/2-inch post is a gigantic post and, unless you need that size for structural stability, I would be inclined to choose the 6 3/4-inch post. You might also want to finish it off with trim or a cap of some sort at the top and bottom so that it doesn't look like a plain stick holding up the roof. Some kind of cap or trim that complements the trim used around the door and windows.
