Rug seems small for the space and the background color doesn't blend well with your sofas. I'd keep looking.

Not a pro but the rug seems off/distracting in both color and design. I’d look for another one.

It's a war between the rug and the coffee table to my eye. A round or oval coffee table would work better. The blue pillows are too big and not quite the right hue for the straw (on my screen) sofa. All the pillows are too big. There is no place to really sit. Try for smaller ones closer to the hues in your art works, and with lines in the pillows.

Does Ruggable have a 'view in my room' feature? I can't find it, if it does. If they don't they are falling down on the job!!

Not sure this one would work without a viewer, but it would at least be better than what you have now as that does NOT work.

No black and white -- your room is very traditional, and your contemporary rug is jarring in that setting. It's also too close to the color of your couches. I'd look for something with color(s) that are found in your art, walls, or pillows you might find.

I think your rug needs to relate to all this I've circled in red that is nearest to the sofa

It also needs to relate to all the grids you have in the room: on the ceiling, in your French doors and windows, your wall paneling. the lines in your dark cabinet, the rigid multiple lines of your modern fireplace, the sharp box of the TV and the box shapes of your coffee table, sofa cushions and pillows.

The reason the thin wavy lines rug doesn't work is that the wavy lines don't boldly wave and curve enough to stand up to all all the boxes. You could probably find a rug with circles, curves or waves that would, but it would probably need to have black prominently in it.

Black would bring sophistiction to the part of the space where the focus is the black TV. Even if you want color, geometrics make sense for all the squares in both your dining area and TV watching area.

Of course you can have flowers if you want them

The "bones" of your room are really nice--the trim, windows and flooring all look to be top quality. However, neither the rug nor the sofa fabric go well with the color on the walls. And the rug doesn't work with the sofas either. The sofas look yellow-ish, and the wall color looks blue-gray. You have too many near-neutrals and none of them are in the same hue family, making the space look off.

Yes, I can see where there is a bit of a disconnect between the wall color and what’s going on in the space. Grey/ beige/sand - these neutrals can all work together - and can be beautiful together. It’s all found in the beach/shore nature color palettes. But the balance has to be right; and also, the particular shade of grey that you have on the walls appears (at least on my screen) to conflict a bit. I think you would be better off with a color like BM Edgcomb grey for this room - or another taupe/grey, if you want grey walls.

But i think the main issue between the rug and sofas, etc. is that your coffee table is the odd man out. I love the rug, and it works beautifully with the style of your sofas; and your throw pillows are also great. The coffee table doesn’t go, imo.

Before you do or buy one thing? Decide the couch issue.They are staying, yes? Then ditch the wall color and pick something that honors the seating........

What would that be? A pretty ivory, a leafy green ? A bold and deep navy which would give some contrast to the pale beige tone of the couches? By the way? You need not leave the wainscoting white, it CAN be same color as the wall above.

Take some more pictures, from the other end of the space, make a drawing with all the dimensions, every wall and window and opening in feet and inches. Add it in a comment. Why?

Along with the paint, upholstery hues not playing well together, the rug is just too darn small for the space : )

Before any major purchase? What is the look and feel you are after IN this room? What's the "dream", understanding life with four kids is indeed messy : ) - but it doesn't DICTATE Ruggable, either.

Bring the two colors in the room together on a larger rug. I have heard mixed reviews about the Ruggables. For as expensive as they are I'm not sure the quality is in the product.

For me it's more the sofa and loveseat than the rug. They are so plain and nondescript they have no presence in the room. And, yes, the rug doesn't help. The suggestions you've been given are quite good although I will venture to say that a more traditional and larger oriental rug with a bit of red in it would bring more color and pattern into the room.

Too many pillows and too big. The rug is just boring but IMO a black pillow would make it work IMO if you need to move pillows to sit down you have too many . I like bolsters sometimes instead of actual pillows and maybe a trow in a color from a piece of art .

For me the big disconnect is between the rug and the couches. The rug has a cooler white background with organic flowing lines which fights with the yellowish couches with a clear geometric diamond pattern. I really like the room visual put together by Celery because it does a good job mixing cool and warm tones. Ties it all together with enough visual interest. IMO.

What is it like to walk, talk, be in that room? Acoustics matter. Drapes and a much larger carpet would help. Perhaps move away from the rugs for sale in specific sizes. Go to a carpet shop, buy the proper size that's more neutral and have it bound. Maybe something highly textured but all one color.

Coffee table is wrong as stated in quite a few responses. The size of the rug is fine IMO, because it does not cover up your beautiful floors.

I agree with others who have said that the wall color does not work with the sofa.. The rug does not work with the sofa or walls.

I love what Celery did--repeating the two colors (gold and gray) throughout the room is a nice way to marry them without changing the large pieces (sofas) or wall color. The rug(s) that have both colors are perfect.

There's nothing wrong with the wall color. The rug could work with the wall color. The rug does not work with the couches. Since it's probably easier to take the rug back than replace the couches that's what I would do. And I would use Celery's pics as inspiration. Even if you go with a completely different style, it's the repetition of color that is helpful and using decor that doesn't fight with the couches. I actually like the style of the rug and perhaps it can be used elsewhere in the house.

Impossible to talk about scale without seeing the other half of the room. In the photos the rug makes room seem long and narrow. I think you need a rug that is not so skinny.

I think Bev nailed it. Furniture is very expensive, and your pieces are fine. Bev’s rugs work with the art; you need smaller throw pillows, curtain panels, and likely a new wall color. Your color palette should come from the art - toned down greens, golds, yellows, creamy whites.

Love the rug, but it's not right with your furnishings. I love this dark one from Ruggables that will ground your room and pull in the color from the sideboard. Add some pillows in different styles and textures and some greenery on the coffee table. If you can also add in some color to the pillows from the wall color or art prints. I'd also suggest that your artwork that is flanking the window be the same style and size to make it symetrical. It's a beautiful room - love the ceiling.
