Aesthetically, the height certainly gives a feeling of space. The gaps allow cross breeze and ventilation and glimpses of the sky which enhances the feeling of being outside. The solid roof gives good shade in the summer and the extra height of the central roof allows the sun into the dining area in the winter as it is North facing.

I am flabbergasted at what you've done here with that homely house. I love it!
