Minimal iron. Post set into the brick at the top and bottom, handrail follows the slope of the stair and then returns to the column.

Do you mean handrails for the stairs?

Is this house in an icy climate? If it were my house I would put one black metal handrail right down the middle, with a minimum of posts and a simple scroll end. But if that's too radical I would not put the handrails on the flower bed bricks. I would keep them on the stairs and flare the outward, and stop them in the cement at the bottom of the stairs.

These can be custom fabricated easily & installed on the steps by an iron shop.

Definitely black wrought iron. Is there a code requirement where you live for doing either two rails or one down the middle? Either scenario would look great.

I agree wrought iron but I would do both sides to keep the center clear .I like Halletts plan best.

Patricia, Hallett doesn't indicate the brick of the stairs or the brick of the walls. Makes a big difference.

it seems you have wood post porch railings so i would continue with wood on the stairs. a better photo showing more of the house would be helpful

I agree with Anna Devane--if indeed you have wood porch railings (which seems to be the case), switching to wrought iron would not be the best choice. I'd continue the wood railings.

The point is that you want consistency. If it's not real wood, and you like it, then continue it on the stairs. If it's not real wood and you don't want to keep it, then replace it with the wrought iron, which you then continue on the stairs. I think it would not look good to have one type of railing on the porch and a different one on the stairs.

Can you show a close up of the porch railing? i thought it looked like wood from a distance which would make me think you coulld use wood for the stairs. we can only advise from afar. it would be cohesive and pleasing to the eye to contine the same look you already have on the porch but that doesnt rule out real wood.

So what is your choice? Do you want to keep the same railing or replace it with wrought iron?
