identify strange “melted” bricks

I’m not really looking for design ideas, but I thought perhaps someone here would have seen these strange types of bricks before.

They have a cool, melted look scattered through out the rest of the more normal looking bricks. Eventually I’ll redo the entire fireplace pulling out the bricks. I also don’t like the strange two stacks of bricks going to the top of vaulted ceiling.

Someone suggested to just paint the whole thing until I’m ready to redo the fireplace, but the bricks are almost too cool to destroy with paint. I’d rather have them dismantled and put to use somewhere else. Same bricks are also on our short wall by driveway.

So, has anyone seen these bricks before?

I've never seen anything like that. It almost looks like were salvaged from a fire.

It will be interesting to find out!

I am in CA, those bricks are a retail product named : rustic or artisan in my area.

Those are 'clinker' bricks.

@debbi Washburn,; @A Mat,; @ci_lantro Thank you all for the comments! I think I’ll just think of them as “Artisan Clinkers”. They are much more melted and drippy than pictures of normal clinkers I found. I’ve been to the Gamble House in Pasadena, California and I don’t remember those brick having the crazy drips like these. I wasn’t able to find anything named specially “artisan” or “rustic”, but artisan would certainly describe them!

I can't imagine if you demo that wall that the bricks would be in any condition to reuse. Enjoy the melt while you have it.
