I'd do something like this:

I need to see the whole kitchen and I am not fond of open shelving in kitchens . I see what looks like a very contemporary style but very traditional dishwre so inned to see the kitchen Post pics here in comments DO NOT start another post .I do not think the style Emily posted is the right choice but no context hard to know.

It pays to measure the items that will be on the shelves. If they’re too close, it will be a pain to put things on them. If you can manage three as @Emily posted, it will look nice.

The lower shelf should be at least 18" above the countertop. After that it's personal preference.
