Fiddling around with log cabins

I can't seem to make quilt tops fast enough to "feed" my longarm. I'm really enjoying the quilting process now. I remember when I had eight tops to quilt, just waiting for inspiration. Just the opposite now. I still haven't gotten into FMQ with the longarm. I don't know if I ever will, but I am loving the computer-driven capabilities of it. Here is my latest. I have so many 1-1/2" strips cut that I may never run out. Next, I may try to use up the pile of 2" strips that I have. I have a pattern in mind. I've used a ton of my 2'1/2" strips to make kits to take to Palm Desert this winter. I have five quilt tops in Ziplock bags, all fabric cut into the sizes I need. That should keep me busy until I get home.

Very nice, Lois! I have tons of 1-1/2 and 2" strips, too...just can't figure out how to use them. I have one ongoing project (Charmed, that I think you posted a while back). My fabrics tend to be mostly in the "mid" range - not dark and not light - so patterns needing high-contrast don't usually work for me.

Thanks, Donna. I found a free pattern by Donna Jordan called Scrap Strips Diamond Trip that calls for 2-1/2" strips, but that I'm going to try with 2" strips. I think it would look great with lots of mid-range colors. https://youtu.be/cWekKVHdMms?si=Uck6IuC4tunFPgqq

I love log cabins, in fact I have one of Lois’ and one of Donna’s printed out ready for me when I get downstairs. And now Enabler Lois has added another to my list. i think I had better forgo cleaning drawers and closets and re- introduce myself to my machine.

Very nice looking log cabin! I thoroughly enjoy making log cabin blocks, too. I watched the tutorial you linked and I like that scrappy pattern as well. So many quilts... so little time!

As usual, that's a great qult, Lois.

I, too love log cabins. I started quilting late in life. I was just going to make one quilt, like a bucket list item. I was going to make a log cabin as my first quilt. Of course, everyone discouraged me from doing it as my first. Now I know why. Somehow I never got back to making that log cabin.

Donna, here's one that you can make with all mid-color strips. It's my next quilt.

Donna, i looked at Balancing Act and immediately started picking out fabrics for it. I bought backing for it today, and I will start on it tonight. Thanks for the tip.

Looking at your log cabin, Lois, what I just realized is that you don't have that yellow or red center block. I like the way you did that.
