Could be, if someone threw a pit down in the ground. If it is avocado, there are several ways to confirm it. 1) you should easily be able to scrape away some soil to find the pit. 2) A bruised leaf will have a specific aroma common to the Persea genus. On the other hand, that leaf shape is pretty common to many, many other plants.

I'll be back there next week, so I'll check for the pit and leaf fragrance. It was easy to notice because it was the only plant in the woods that still had green leaves.

Certainly looks like avocado, if that is a possibility there. I get them coming up all the time in my garden from home made compost. But I don't know what look alikes there might be in your area.

Looks just like my compost-pile seedlings. Very surprised that it hasn't been frozen yet.
