Stained door and trim with painted jamb?

Hi,

I'm planning on having my interior doors be a craftsman style stained doug fir. Also the trim will be craftsman style stained doug fir. However, getting the door jamb in stained doug fir as well is stupid expensive - the door shop quoted $420 per door to prehang in paint grade, vs $1015 per door to prehang in stain grade doug fir. The person at the door shop suggested painting the jamb in the room color, they said that's what folks are doing these days and it makes the door "pop", kinda like adding a mat to a framed photo. But I can't seem to find a photo of this online. Has anyone done this? Heard of it? If anyone has photos to share I'd appreciate it, this option would save me upwards of $5K. Thanks Houzz community!
