i've seen door jams and trim painted well doors were not in older craftsman homes. It didn't look controversial to me and fit quite well with the character of those homes Will try to find pics for you. I don't recall that the door jams in the trim we're actually painted the color of the room however.

OK here are some pics. Not as many true craftsman as I thought. And the door jambs are not painted room color, but they're not stained either. You can decide if you like these for your style of home and doors. But I think it can be a very nice look.

I would only do that if I planned on painted trim everywhere, with the doug fir as interior door only. As the picture above.

Meaning all window casing, base, crown..are paint. As paint on jamb only? No.

Douglas Fir is challenging. I'd order one door, as a strike sample.

"Douglas Fir can be a bit complicated to stain because of its uneven texture. Applying wood conditioner before staining will help create a more even-finished product. Two coats of wood conditioner are recommended."
