All post caps are designed for a flat top post, you effectively have a cap by having the chamfer cut at the top of the existing post. What are you trying to gain with adding a cap? Why can’t you cut the post top?

Thank you. I guess I feel like cutting the tops off the post seem like going backwards. So if all caps are made for flat posts, that must mean there is always an air-gap when the cap is pointy rather than flat, right? Does anyone worry about the air gap? Any issues with condensation under the cap?

What air gap are you referring to?

For example, the caps I’ve seen have hallow interiors (I’m attaching a picture of just an example of what I’m talking about). If the cap in this picture is set onto a flat-top post, there will be an air gap. My husband is concerned with this gap, condensation will form inside the cap…just don’t know how concerned I should be about this. Thank you, again, for helping me think through this.

We have the same posts as you on our log cabin with the non-flat top. We used these and they fit very well. Very easy to install. They are by Atlanta Post caps. I bought one from amazon to try out to make sure they worked. They come in other colors and styles on the AtlantaPost caps website.

If you zoom into the stairs you can see the caps. I am not home to be able to take a better picture.

I will also add that we got caps because two of the posts started rotting from water getting down into the post from the top.

@vinmarks I have seen these. Do the two tabs that are screwed into the post bend to the slant of the tapered post, then? Thank you!

We installed them just like the video except the tab didnt have wood under the entire thing due to the camfer cuts.
