Is the wood on the back of the built-in unit in the living room plywood? Once books and things are there, it would be largely hidden. I would paint it the same color as the walls or wallpaper it.

What do you anticipate the wood alcove and cabinetry will be used for in the living room? Thinking about the function should give you some clues as to what to do with it. The cabinetry in the bathroom doesn't look particularly functional especially for someone renting. If you occupied the place yourself the cabinetry might work well enough and might be something you could learn to live with yourself. I think a renter might find it objectionable and would prefer to have a regular vanity installed.

very unique, I like it. real character. I would get rid of the blinds and replace with inside mount blinds to show off the window trim.

Clean the living room up and set it up with furnishings, it will be interesting.

The bathroom looks like a great painting project. large enough to add wallpaper for interest. Like the ceiling. Is the floor real tile? Brown?

Thanks to all. I had a contractor look at it and he suggested tearing down the plywood wall and replacing it with drywall. The room on the other side of the wall was a dining room but I will suggest it is a 3rd BR. I dont want to tear it down and the ideas for paint or wallpaper sound better. The floor in the bathroom is sheet vinyl brown/black/tan and its in very good condition. Contractor also wants to rip out the bathroom cabinetry and I may agree to that but I don't know what I would replace it with.

I like the vintage style of the bathroom cabinets. But I would change the floors to match that style. Black and white check.

The living room wall with fireplace and windows make the house feel Craftsman in style. If so, there doesn't look like there is much left of original features. The interior doors are replacements, obviously the lighting.

I second the suggestion to take down the wood stained built-ins and turn that other side room into a third bedroom.

I think the cabinet/mirror in the bathroom is interesting, good storage, and a white semi-gloss paint would make a difference. Wallpaper the bathroom. This is a William Morris design from Sanderson.

Dark wood, and if you want to roll with Craftsman style, pairs nicely with an off white.
