Attractive house. I'd remove the pampas grass, prune the tree to the right in the last photo to lift the canopy and let in more light. Consider removing the tree next to the front door if its roots are invading the foundation.

No advice on window treatments, fencing or siding. The latter depend on your climate. I suggest you take photos of what you want to change and start new posts for each.

As the mother of a college freshman, I completely appreciate your wanting to keep the costs reasonable! If you're looking for a quick fix, I would suggest painting the window trim and garage door trim with Ben Moore's Consentino Chardonnay #247, the garage door and front door trim Creekside Green #2141-40 and the front door Pomegranate #AF-295. (I can't tell from the pictures what color the front door is now).

On that long empty wall leading to the front door I would add a wall fountain and replant.

Margo C. I like the way you think! However, the empty wall leading to the front door is very narrow and has just enough room for the walkway. Also, the house has siding. Nevertheless, perhaps I can put aside enough money for new siding. If so, what color would you suggest?

Laurie, I just read your comments about the house colors and wanted to say thanks for the suggestions. Also, the door is red.

I would spent my money on tree trimming and paint. I think by removing that large tree by the front door it will bring more light to your property. Siding can be easily either be stained or painted and I could see your home in a soft green or creamy beige something lighter that would go well with existing roof color.

Landscaping will do a lot. I agree to cut back or get rid of the plants by the driveway. Then I would spend the money to get rid of the tree by the door and a couple of others that when gone let in more sunlight. If you have the money I'd widen the walkway and put a curve in it as it turns to the front of house. For plantings (depending on what zone you are in) try Hostas which are shade tolerant and easy, for color white vincas planted close together get very nice and full and will brighten the front. Then add a splash of color in a small bird bath or fountain.

If you have deer, no Hosta, they're like candy for the deer.
