A doll for my granddaughter

We are celebrating my 4 year old granddaughter's birthday on Thanksgiving. I made her a small scale Cabbage patch type doll and a wardrobe for it.

Wow! Rose you did a wonderful job. That's excellent! And I know how smaller clothing can be much more difficult to work on. She's going to love it!

Aw! what a great grandma thing to do! What fun!

I gave my gdaughter one of the smaller American Girl dolls, a WellieWisher doll. She is 14.5" high and g daugher named her "julia". Gdaugher must have been about five at the time.

I made an extensive wardrobe for her, including strapy sandals and shoes. Then, I got a couple of kids littel toy cases from Ikea and created a closet inside of one with cute little hangers, shoe bag, etc. It was so much fun! She loved it and the doll still gets attention three years out.

So I decided that for the holidays I would make the doll a few more shoes and I even bought a little pattern to go by, siince I no longer have the doll with me to get a precise fit. I quickly gave up on it. I just dont have the patience with those tiny things anymroe and without the doll, it is not easy ot get a good fit that will actually stay on the doll. So, I let it go

My own daughter was of the age when the Cabbage Patch fever hit the kid world. She wanted one, but I think that she was caught up in the collective frenzy.

So, I got a pattern and made two for her. But she never really liked them because it was just that collctive want that the media creates. So, now these two sister dolls have been on my front porch, ageing along with a few other kids toys into a strange and slightly sinister collection of moldy and creepy dolls that I am cultivating. They are part of an array that makes everyone do a double take!

Your doll is adorable and such a wonderful gift.

I have a SIL who bought her grand daughter an AG doll that represents their Irish heritage. She gave it the life story and the name of her very own Irish grandmother and she even writes "letters" in the name of theis person and mails them to her grand daugher. She really made it personal! She is teaching her g daughter about her own family history. Her grand daughter must be about five years old now.

There are any number of grown women who own dolls and sew for them. I felt that I wanted to keep the clothes that I made as something that a school age girl would wear. Some make some very sophsiticated clothes for the dolls. I wanted the clothes to be real kids clothes and to be easy to dress the doll with. Yours look wonderful!

I have been tempted to get myself a doll to have fun sewing for and dresssing, but I just cant bring myself to justify it. It looks like fun sewing.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful gift!

I hope every item has a couture label at the neck or waistband. Maybe an embroidered rose?

Well, Rose! You have convinced a 77 year old woman that she cannot survive without a doll to play with! And she (77) at last has a purpose for the many many children's tea sets she has collected!

Maymay? That is my grand daughters name! I am 70ish and I want a doll too. I am tempted to get one of the knock off AG dolls sold by Target and Walmart.

Rose, your doll is so adorable!!!
