Is water sitting in the lip of the lid that you can just wipe out after a cycle so it won't drip?

I need to clarify, not dripping from the lid but the spot where the water comes out to fill the tub. just keeps dripping.

The water inlet valve probably needs replacing. Buy the correct part for your washer* and replace it. Here are some youtube videos that show how.

That is not a valid Whirlpool model number. It's probably the document number from your user manual. The model/serial tag may be on the loading port behind the edge of the lid. Open the lid partially and bend down to look there. You must reference the correct model number to search for parts.

PartDr .com lists it for $42.55 (+shipping/tax). There may be other sources offering it for less although those may (or may not) be an after-market version instead of Whirlpool FSP. Your choice, there's not necessarily anything bad about an aftermarket water valve assembly. Also consider checking choices on eBay.

Follow video 1 linked above If you plan to DIY. Don't follow video 2, that guy disassembles the machine in the wrong way.

If you can't DIY the repair, then don't expect to get the online part price (+service call/trip, diagnosis & labor) on a call-out.

V at 8th position in the model number indicates 2008 model-year. Could be newer or a smidgen older depending on the production date (which is coded in the serial number). Some models are produced for longer than one year. Q is white color. 2 is the engineering revision.

Your machine is what's known as Whirlpool's direct-drive design, which was produced from late 1981 through 2010-2012. It's considered among the best of toploader designs. Should be worth the repair assuming the machine is otherwise in good condition, hasn't been abused.

Thank you all so much. This washer is in a vacation rental. Other than being annoyingly loud, especially when it agitates, it is easy for guests to use. I am not into the lid locks and no ability to adjust the water level that you get with todays washers, so i think we will fix this one!

There are knock-offs of the part on Amazon for $20 but some people complained that they leaked after installation. Your time is valuable. I'd buy the genuine Whirlpool part from one of the vendors above.
