Help with bland exterior and blank gable

The inside of the house is beautiful but when we built the house we decided to wait and finish curb appeal later. We are having serious issues with the siding so we need to completely reside and this presents a great opportunity to finish the curb appeal. The styles I love are like Martha's vineyards type homes, cape cod, beachy bungalow, and craftsman. The only part I like about the exterior are the exposed rafter tails. Do you think I need an architect? Thank you for ideas!

You need to add shutters to the house. The color is fine but you need depth. Landscaping will also add to it.

You can use shake siding on the whole house for the cap cod look or board and batten will also work

I agree with Rockin' Fine finish on his siding recommendations. I think you would gain a tremendous value from working with a landsape designer to help you develope a site and planting plan. Right now it is all aout the driveway. The long mostly blank wall between the front intrance and garage would benefit with either an arbor, substantial trellis or taller plantings. Consider consulting with an architect to make exterior architectural recommendations. The tall space over the front door looks heavy. Could you add another window there?

I would consult with an architect bc your home needs some exterior fine tuning which could radically improve its curb appeal, With the right architect and landscape designer your home could be really beautiful.

Instead of spending your hard earned money on architects and siding you don't need. Look into a good landscape designer. The house really not that bad and you notice the gable because there is nothing else to take your eye away. The real problem is that the house just sits there on a blank expanse. Give the house something to sit amongst and you will find the house is not such a problem after all.

If your going to do something structural, change the roof line, reconfigure the second floor you don't walk over a bridge without one. If you want it to have beautiful architectural details then is better you get one and a good one. Most quality builders don't build anything requiring architectural details without having done them before and having consulted with an architec.t None of us build without architects if plans are required, As far as your landscape anyone on houzz who can design landscapes and there are many can be hired to do so . you don't have to live in the zone to draw up plans just know the zone, native plants, then hire a good landscape company to install it.
