Chandelier Ideas for modern dining room

I have been procrastinating for almost 4 years and can’t make a decision on what chandelier would fit better in the dining room area.

The table is very long 126” (or 10’6”) so I’m debating if 2 or 1 piece would be ideal.
The table with is 48” but the space per se is kinda narrow hidden behind the floating stairs.

I want a statement piece that is modern but not so minimalist that is boring. I was wondering if a crystal modern chandelier could give that wow factor.

Please suggestions ???

This is called 'Ball of yarn"... kind of a Basquiat scribble and up to 60" long. Maybe better in black?

Maybe a Yves Klein blue wall.

    Up the drama a little.

I love that ball of yarn piece. I too was thinking maybe a black fixture when i first saw the room, but I don’t know... I really love that look in the gold. The ”Cityscape” fixture is also interesting - since OP’s artwork reminds me of a cityscape - maybe it is one.

It really depends on the look you want. You mention crystal as a possibility, and I think two of something like this might be fun.

I just noticed that Paul is the one who did the blue wall. Looks amazing. I had noticed that you have a lot of blues around the space. So with or without the additional blue wall - if you wanted to tie in more of the blues, I think this could be stunning. It’s a fairly large piece. You may only need one.

I like the options suggested by Paul F.
I also think that the walls near the group dining room could use some additional decoration/painting, but I would suggest partial painting - something in the rhythm of your huge art (we are talking about one color and, yes, these are shades of blue).
Here is my version of the chandelier.
    https://www.svetla.sk/p/lindby-jolasi-led-zavesne-svietidlo-11-pl-115-cm-8032447.html?lw_om_view=recotop&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PMAX_EM_Categories&utm_content=&utm_term=&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA-P-rBhBEEiwAQEXhH5Ltq3BhM4F44hKB3GLFApdyeNO1LL15z9vCzveyAq6wZvSqDVdFRxoCwFkQAvD_BwE&et_uk=251d99f5849b44fdbb6d7f1da82310c3&et_gk=MmY2OGI3NmZlMzE1NDM0MGEwYjVjODc4ZjE3MjQxNDAlN0MxNy4wMi4yMDI0KzA2JTNBMDQlM0EyOQ

Of course, you need 3, 4 or 5 of these lamps. And I would arrange them not in one line, but with an offset relative to the central axis of the table (offset to the left and right), again taking into account the rhythm of the art and the lamp itself, as well as your partition.

I also want to warn you to be careful with chandeliers that are too flashy or voluminous, because your dining area space is quite limited, and such lamps need space..

And I would also think about additional lighting in the panel/art area at the end of the table - sconces or a pair of neat floor lamps of different heights...

I love the one from Banos . Do you love the art in there ? I would like to see a huge piece there with a bit of color

Wonderful space! i have always liked the Tom Dixon Beat series (this fixture is 60”) - I could also see 2 fixtures, related but different sizes/ heights for interest (the pic is just an example, i think your space would be great with something more dramatic and less casual)

Your decor choices are lovely and given your taste, I don’t think a crystal chandelier will suit for a number of reasons. A “statement“ will be better achieved with a unique design suited to the narrow space, long table, and high ceilings and most importantly, suits your design aesthetics.

First determine length, as I believe a linear shape (as others recommended) is the best shape and this first decision will make narrowing down much easier. Can’t recommend a specific look, as it‘s so personal and also depends on budget. Hope the different ideas below help and once you define the look you prefer, then start your search.

I think the room needs something with gold tones and curves. The space (which is lovely!) has so many hard edges and black that it needs a little contrast.

Banos - love this one too. I’ll let ok into it. What length should be for a table my size?

Paul - I absolutely love the idea of the blue wall with the gold chandelier. Just wondering your thoughts on the blue on blue tho - dining chair is darker blue leather and the other sitting area a bit lighter blue velvet. I’ll attach a pic below in the daylight to see what I mean. Thank you so much for the editing of the photos! You are amazing.. how do you even do that? 🙃
I also noticed the chandelier is from light of Scandinavia. I actually bought one from them before for that space but didn’t like the quality and size. Much smaller than the picture they showed and the return was ridiculous - so expensive that it didn’t make sense so I had sell cheaper on Facebook. I’ll try to find the same lamp in a store here in Toronto.

Freedom place - I agree with the good option to break the blackness a bit. Didn’t think about gold as an option before but since Paul posted the pic it kinda looks very cool. I’m also lining towards a long linear chandelier instead of round because of the length of the table?

Tachch - what do you mean by partial painting? In the blue wall Paul posted?
The black frames are from a local artist and custom made so I know is a bit boring but since my other paintings are very colorful I thoughts it would be too much there and I wanted to show her work in a more classic/elegant look like the dining room. Guess it did get boring but I would like to work with it if possible.

Patricia - pls see comment above regarding the painting. I have 2 massive custom made painting on the hallway already that’s why I wanted to tone down the colors.

La la girl - love the chandeliers. Wonder if I would have to make electrical changes for each one tho?

Maureen - agree! I love your option 1, 2 (REALLY LOVE IT, so classic but modern at the same time too). Number 6 I bought from lighting of Scandinavia and was awful in the space. Too simple, small and not good quality. It got lost in the air.

    Photos:
1- velvet chair for the “piano room” that doesn’t have a piano lol. My plan was to make a little family wall with antique frames in gold, black, brass etc to have a little eclectic space in a super modern home. My husband is Persian so I also wanted to add the Persian rug in to bring a little of his personality to it and an antique table. I was also planning to paint that window frame wall back to white as I thought the black got too dark. (The lemon tree goes where the Christmas tree is so is there temporarily).

    2- color of chairs.

    3- hallway painting (it’s massive).

4- Paul. Blue (or other color) would stop before the other space or should go all the way to the end so the frames are also on top of the blue background?

Living room has the red pillows accents because of Christmas but I change the pillows depending on season. Blue or yellow for summer, bege for fall, orange, white/silver. I have a few collections of pillows so I don’t get bored :)

Even the kitchen is all white and I couldn’t decide on backsplash yet but I’ll add a wood shelve above the small window to add my plants.

Wow you have a really lovely home I can see that you took your time choosing every piece. For me personally I love the suggestion Banos made, and also Maureen, the gold details would look really nice in that dining room especially with those chairs.

P Banos: another Hubbardton Forge fan! Thank you! I love their lighting....we have this one over our dining table (with 3 lamps, not 5) and several of their flush ceiling lights in both entryways and the living room. You can choose different finishes.

HF Cityscape comes in 26 and 52 inch. I think the larger would be good, but you could do two shorter ones if you have the electrical set up.

The length of the table doesn’t matter, basically. It just comes down to the look that you want to have. It‘s a relatively new concept that a rectangular dining table has to have long/rectangular/linear shaped lighting. I believe it is an outgrowth of the kitchen island lighting concept.

But people still use round chandeliers with long/rectangular tables, all the time. And it is still classic, in all formats.

Glad you like it. Beverly's first suggestion is the fixture I was looking for when I came across 'Ball of yarn'. That also would look great. There are too many straight lines in the stair structure to play off them in my opinion. You art-collector looking home needs sculpture with curves. I would take cues from that great big painting on the opposite wall. There are several shades of blue in it and that eye catching yellow corner in the painting is calling out for a gold accents elsewhere.

I'd consider making the fireplace structure stand out more (all the way around) by continuing what you started on the front or just add a contrasting rough stone/wood? That little area with the two chairs would be called a snug in the UK.... for drinks after dinner or for reading. So maybe a cocktail table and a reading lamp? A display case would be nice too. So much potential.

Love it! How about a gold full length mirror? I don’t have any mirror in the main floor for like a selfie before going out per example.. that would get the floating stairs, the big panting and dining room as background - thinking about Social media posts 🙃

There's something about the very linear quality of this one that I thing might fit fairly well in your dining room.

    Salam :)

You got some good suggestions for different chandeliers. As a designer, The one that caught my eye was P Bano's, it is luxurious enough for your space yet minimalistic enough to pass as modern.

However, It depends how fancy, how glam you want to go. If you want a touch of eclectic or traditional, I would go with a dripping effect chandelier, think cascading crystals etc. If you want rich Opulence again, cascading crystals. If you want it to be flexible enough to fit many styles, something with a shorter profile but sleek would suffice. If you want modern, lots of round items, curves. And MCM, you can focus on textures or wood, such as teak etc.

The choices are plenty and really most of the chandeliers that were picked out could fit for your dining space but the wow factor comes first from yourself, your taste.

If you love it, chances are everyone else will too. You have a beautiful house with lots of art and color, the dining space I believe you want to keep to less color, regardless I would focus on a gold, wood or crystal chandelier to tie in with the rest of the house and the stair slats.

You said you want a nice backdrop for pictures, i.e. social media and I am assuming you want a wow factor. To create that you might have to go a little dramatic, while maintaining clean lines.

Here are a couple more ideas of rectangular chandeliers that would work for this space really well:

Cascading/drip chandeliers in rectangular form to compliment the dining table and a couple round ones to offfset the narrowness of the room.

Both shapes will work but rectangle might look best with the table.

Then the single one if you want to make your own. Each costs 160.

The capiz shell adds a feminine touch. The round crystals hanging chandelier is versatile as you can put as many as you want on and there are several types of these where you can make your own (cheaper than most) if budget is an issue here.

More basic designs like the last 2 work well with the modern artwork you have as well.

Other than the 1st, 3rd and 4th, these are all dramatic In their own way, yet still flexible enough to use as a standalone modern chandelier.

Some smoked amber or brown glass chandeliers can also look beautiful in this space if you wanted a more MCM type look. Because again, your wood slats can look really warm, amber and brown glasses or crystals can also look well. And since your hubby is Persian, the Warm woods , gold and amber tones would possibly be really inviting to him and your other persian friends/family.

I would suggest a soft rectangle for the shape of the chandelier or rounder form balls, crsytals in the form of a chandelier.

I will create a render to give some idea as to how it could look.

The amber smoke color in a modern flair

This one is also cognac color glass, but in a heavily modern style. Rectangular/linear in shape but the latter comes in a round shape as well.

These both can look great against the wood/dark tones and the lightness/airy feel of the glass and straight design adds to the modern feel

If you really wanted to go modern you can do simple minimalist bars and bubble bulbs. But those can get overdone and used to really quick if it's not a unique design. Staggering minimal or simple chandeliers together can give a wow effect too. Such as taking a single line chandelier and adding 3 or 4 in a staggered fashion. Like the last picture below.

These would be simple enough to pass as full modern yet elegant enough to not look so common:

Hi Raisa, you could have a custom-made chandelier with hand-blown glass pendants.

Below are a few ideas. We can design the perfect chandelier for your space.
