maximum step-up for shower permitted by code

I want to renovate a bathroom, and for reasons I can't go into, a new shower stall (3X3 or 3X4, no bath) isn't going to be able to be at the existing grade of the rest of the bathroom.


Are you allowed to have a shower that would be 2 small steps up from the floor? So perhaps 8 inches up?
