Is this tile marble, if so was the tile sealed? Was the shower plan flood tested? Looks like it "may" be standing water wicking up. How was the pan constructed?

Thank you millworkman! yes marble. no not sealed or grouted. cement & rubber pan. what do you think of the threshold alligment ?

What are you using for the rest of the floor tile?

Will the adjoining baseboard be the same color as the threshold?

The threshold is aligned with the base molding so the floor tile will run in a straight line where it meets the threshold and adjoining base molding. I‘m not saying whether that way looks best or not but that’s probably the installer’s thinking.

Are you using this shower? Missing marble pieces and seeing down to backing in some areas also how was perimeter caulked/grouted?

Is this still under construction or being used? What professionals are involved? Where in the tile from?

Yes he has not completed the job but we are using it since it is the only shower we have. we are using a contractor from our area. $180/hr and not a good finisher at all. The shower floor tile is from home depot . thanks

Water damage from improperly installed tiling could cost you thousands. Do you have a generous neighbor? I’d consider sink-washing and shampooing one another’s hair over the kitchen sink before allowing unfinished or improperly grouted tile to get wet. You may also want to find a new installer before the person you hired does even more damage.

Tiling is purely cosmetic, the lipstick per se. You can easily shower in a shower with no tile that was waterproofed properly with no issues. If tile cannot get wet it is the incorrect application. I will still say that the pan may not be pitched properly and allowing standing water near the drain.

Grout is not and will never be waterproof, it allows water to seep thru it which is why the waterproofing behind and under the tile is what is important.

The shading is due to the tile itself though since it’s happening in squares that exactly match the sheets. You got boxes from different lots, were returns, or just low quality.

If I was the contractor I wouldn’t allow you to use it until it was completely finished. How will you know that it’s completely dried out prior to grouting and caulking?

But the tile and grout allow water thru, that is the purpose of the pan, to funnel said water thru to the drain.

Yes and no in my opinion @HALLETT & Co.. That could be but there are areas where it is not that cut and dry. Not saying it may not be the issue just a little suspicious that close to the drain,

If this was marble, it needs to be sealed before use because it is a porous material. Even after sealing it can stain. Looks like the water was absorbed and is being held by the stone if it is indeed marble
